The Music Of Amy Beach

Amy Marcy Cheney Beach (September 5, 1867 – December 27, 1944) was an American composer and pianist. She was the first successful American female composer of large-scale art music. As a pianist, she was acclaimed for concerts she gave in the United States and in Germany.

The most frequently performed composer of her generation, she became famous in both the United States and Europe.

Amy Beach composed a symphony and concerto, also songs, chamber, choral and solo piano music. She composed some three hundred works, almost all published and performed. Long a hero to women composers, she died 1944 in New York City at the age of 77.
